Day 49: My own workout

Dec 27

Christmas. It was a weekend filled with families, friends, and way too much good food.

Day 48: Ten pounds

Dec 24

I like my body. I’m slim. I’m muscular. I’ve got a decent, somewhat curvy figure. If I weren’t hoping for a career in dance, I’d be very happy with my body. But I am. And if I’m being perfectly honest with you, and with myself, I have some weight that I can afford to lose.

Day 47: Put my pride aside

Dec 22

If you read yesterday’s post, you might have caught the part where I mentioned taking the upper-level children’s classes at the studio where I dance. This isn’t a regular occurrence, but now, during winter break, they have a temporary class right after the advanced adult class I take (which is currently being taught by a wonderfully crazy woman). So I’ve been staying after, and taking it. As embarrassing as it feels to be the only adult in a class full of teenagers, I’m doing what I have to do. Pride and shyness be damned.

Day 46: Ballet as a startup

Dec 21

Son and I… we’re entrepreneurial sorts of people. We would far rather be working for ourselves than for “The Man”. We want to someday have our own successful company. We love being our own bosses. However, I’ve always thought of ballet differently. With ballet, I want to be a part of a company. A big one, even. I would far rather be working for someone else as a dancer, than trying to create a ballet company on my own (at least, for now). But the other day, as Son and I were discussing my attempt at a dance career, he had a good point – I need to approach my career just as I would a startup.

Day 44: Articulate

Dec 16

“Articulate your feet.” That was today’s correction of the day. There were other corrections – tummy in, rear tucked; quicker passé in pirouettes – but those I’ve heard before (and work my hardest to apply). This was a new one. This one really stuck with me.

Hips. I have a love/hate relationship with these hips of mine.

Day 42: Back on the horse

Dec 11

Bad weeks. They happen. Sometimes they only last for a few days. Sometimes weeks. But sooner or later, they come to an end. Thank goodness.

Day 41: Ugly duckling

Dec 10

There is a dancer who regularly takes some of the classes where I dance. She is one of the most beautiful dancers I’ve ever had the honor to dance with. Not only is she just plain gorgeous, she’s slim as can be, and has the natural sort of grace about her that only the best ballet dancers have. Rumor has it she used to dance with Joffrey Ballet. It shows.

Day 40: Do or do not. There is no try.

Dec 09

“If you’re not going to go all out, and do everything you possibly can to succeed, then don’t bother. Go do something else, instead of wasting your time, energy, and effort on a half-assed attempt.”
